Pen and Ink Sunflower

Pen and Ink sunflower

Homework for the week - pen and ink drawing of a sunflower. This is one of my favourite pictures. The original photo was taken with my cellphone two summers ago of a giant sunflower in our backyard. The thing was huge!

This drawing is not quite finished yet. I'm still working on the fence.  The assignment was to do a stylistic drawing of a photo, using patterns and texture to show tonal contrast.

I've decided to take part in November Art Every Day Month at Creative Every Day.  I may or may not create something every day but I'm going to try. The point is to do something each day, no matter how big or small, and share it with people. I love going to the different sites and seeing what other people are making. It's a great way to get inspired. I know there's going to be days where I do nothing. That's ok too.

Painting done on iPad

This is a painting I did on my iPad, using the Sketchclub app. I'm really getting my money's with from this photo.

  1. My first time at AEDM and have been looking at other participants work. I love pen and ink and your sunflower looks great. Don't know Sketchclub but there is a neat and simple little app called Paper for the iPad that I've seen people do some really nice things and have tried. I'll have to check out Sketchclub.

  3. Very pretty photo, and I like the two different treatments you've given it. Fun to see what can be done with an app, and also by hand with a focus on different aspects. Sometimes we need to create and sometimes we need space to reflect and imagine, so yes doing nothing is definitely OK too!

    1. I think I like the pen and ink drawing best too. I really like how the same picture can be so different.

  5. I love being able to use photos over and over. This sunflower looks incredible and I bet it will look fantastic as you continue to work with it. I hope you are enjoying your art every day month experience so far. I know I am!

    1. It's really making me think of what I do daily on a different level. Makes me think "how am I being creative with this?"
